Title | CMV Retinitis in patients with systemic malignancy under chemotherapy |
Accept poster if oral is not possible ? | Yes |
Purpose | To describe and compare the phenotypes of CMV retinitis in patients with systemic malignancy and HIV. |
Methods | This is a retrospective study. Patients with CMV retinitis diagnosed and treated at Taipei Veterans General Hospital were reviewed and analyzed. |
Results | A total of 71 eyes in 43 patients were enrolled in this study. Compared to HIV patients, non-HIV patients tend to be older, have a higher proportion of females, lower total lymphocyte counts, higher mortality rates, and fewer bilateral cases. The majority of patients who developed CMV retinitis had systemic lymphoma, with a mortality rate of 50% and a mean lymphocyte count of 562.4. |
Conclusion | Although lymphocyte counts in patients with malignancy under chemotherapy were low, the mortality rate was high. Clinicians should be aware when CMV retinitis is found. |
