We Invite You to Join Us in Japan — July 2027

The 19th IOIS Congress and 9th Assembly of Ocular Inflammation Societies are hosted as a joint meeting with JOIS - Japanese Ocular Inflammation Society, bringing the global ocular inflammation community together in Japan — July 2027.

Welcome

by your local hosts

Dear friends,

We are very pleased to host IOIS/JOIS (the Japanese Ocular Inflammation Society) 2027 in Fukuoka. IOIS was previously held in Japan in 1994, also in Fukuoka, where approximately 500 participants gathered, making it a truly memorable conference. We are delighted to welcome you back to Fukuoka and look forward to working together with all JOIS members to make this meeting another outstanding success.

IOIS/JOIS 2027 Fukuoka will be held from July 7 (Wednesday) to July 10 (Saturday), 2027, at the Fukuoka International Congress Center. Fukuoka offers excellent international accessibility, with numerous direct flights from cities across the Asia-Pacific region. It is a compact and convenient city, where the airport, railway stations, hotels, shopping centers, and tourist attractions are all located within a 2 km radius. The convention area is approximately 20 minutes by taxi from the airport and 7 minutes from Hakata Station. In terms of accommodation, Fukuoka City offers approximately 600 facilities with a total of 40,000 guest rooms, providing a wide range of options to suit every budget.

In addition to IOIS and JOIS, the annual meeting of three closely related Japanese societies, the Japanese Association for Ocular Infection, the Japan Ocular Allergy Society, and the Japanese Society of Lacrimal Passage and Tear Dynamics, will be held at the same venue. Together, these meetings will form what we refer to as an “Ocular Inflammation Week,” creating an opportunity to integrate diverse perspectives across ocular inflammation, infection, allergy, and tear dynamics, fostering new insights and collaborations.

Fukuoka was once an ancient center of Japan and is home to many historic sites, including Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and Fukuoka Castle. In addition to its rich culture and warm hospitality, Fukuoka is also renowned worldwide for its cuisine. It is truly a paradise for food lovers, where tradition meets exceptional taste.

We sincerely look forward to welcoming you to IOIS/JOIS 2027 in Fukuoka.

Congress & Culture

Welcome to Fukuoka

Fukuoka is one of Japan's most vibrant and welcoming cities, offering a unique blend of rich history, contemporary culture and world-class cuisine. The Fukuoka International Congress Center sits on the scenic waterfront of Hakata Bay, with Fukuoka Airport just minutes from the city centre and excellent international connections across Asia, Europe and beyond.

Fukuoka is also a city well worth exploring. Renowned for its food scene — from tonkotsu ramen to the lively yatai open-air food stalls along the Nakasu River — the city offers a truly authentic Japanese experience. The ancient Dazaifu Tenman-gū Shrine, scenic parks and a vibrant waterfront promenade are all within easy reach. Delegates will also have the rare opportunity to experience the Hakata Gion Yamakasa — one of Japan's most celebrated summer festivals, taking place each year in the first two weeks of July.
