TitleParavenous pigmented chorioretinal atrophy associated with iris atrophy in presumed sarcoidosis uveitis : A case report
Purposeto describe the rare occurrence of paravenous pigmented chorioretinal atrophy (PPCA) associated with iris atrophy in a patient with presumed sarcoidosis uveitis.
Methodscase report
ResultsA 32-year-old woman, was referred for bilateral panuveitis. Slit-lamp examination showed bilateral granulomatous, synechiatic, non-hypertonic anterior uveitis with path of iris atrophy. Fundus examination showed mild vitritis with multifocal choroiditis and PPCA. A comprehensive workup for infectious and inflammatory etiologies was negative. The diagnosis of presumed sarcoidosis uveitis was made On the basis of clinical and multimodal imaging findings. The patient was treated with oral corticosteroids with gradual improvement in her ocular symptoms. The PPCA and iris atrophy remained stable throughout the follow-up period.
ConclusionThe association between iris atrophy and PPCRA has been reported in a few cases in the literature. The exact mechanism underlying this association is unclear, but it may be related to a common inflammatory process affecting both the iris and the choroid.
