Title | Pemigatinib-related ocular surface inflammation and facial hair changes |
Purpose | To report ocular surface complications related to the use of pemigatinib, a fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) inhibitor for advanced malignancies. |
Methods | The retrospective case study was collected at a private ophthalmology clinic located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. |
Results | During the use of pemigatinib for advanced cholangiocarcinoma, the patient developed the following ocular complications including severe dry eye, superficial keratitis with corneal epithelial infiltrates, and long, thin fragile eyelashes and eyebrows. The patient has been treated with topical lubricant and artificial tears as well as a low-potency topical corticosteroid for the ocular surface condition. Frequent manual epilation was done for preventing the long eyelashes from adhering and rubbing the ocular surface. The ocular condition did improve while discontinuing pemigatinib but recurred after resuming therapy. |
Conclusion | Ocular surface complications might be overlooked and these specific changes did raise the suspicion of medication-related adverse effects. |
