TitleUtility of Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography in the Diagnosis of anterior Scleritis
Accept poster if oral is not possible ?Yes
PurposeTo describe the anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) findings in active non-infectious anterior
scleritis.
MethodsProspective observational study of 40 patients who underwent
AS-OCT. Images were analyzed for scleral thickness and architectural changes.
ResultsMajority (32/40, 80%) had nodular scleritis. Scleral thickness
was increased in all with mean of 1276 ± 374.9 (range 679-2000)
microns. Conjunctival thickening was noted in 40% patients and
subconjunctival fluid level was noted 100%. Large and medium dilated vessels (oval hypoflective areas with posterior shadowing) were noted in 82.5%. Intrascleral edema (linear slit-like hypoflective areas) were prominent in 62.5%.
ConclusionAS-OCT showed increased scleral thickness, vascular dilatation, prominent demarcation line, intrascleral and conjunctival edema. This is a promising modality for quantitative analysis and monitoring therapeutic response by correlating the severity
of disease with amount of scleral thickness.
