Purpose
To investigate the correlation between wide angle fluorescein angiography (FA) and laser flare photometer (LFP) measurements in inactive Behçet uveitis (BU).
Methods
162 eyes of 86 patients with BU who underwent Heidelberg wide angle FA and had LFP measurements were divided into 3 groups based on FA scoring and clinical activity; clinically and angiographically active (group A/ 39 eyes); clinically inactive, angiographically active (group B/ 90 eyes); clinically and angiographically inactive (group C/ 33 eyes).
Results
The mean flare of all groups was 9,02±7,6; the mean flare of groups A, B, and C were 18.29±10.2, 6.89±3.0 and 3.89±1.0, respectively. The mean FA score of all groups was 7,75±6,8 and the mean score of groups A, B, and C were 14,95±5,3, 7,47±5,2 and 0, respectively. Among the angiographically inactive (group C) and active groups (groups A and B) the cut-off flare value was 5.75 (p <0,001, area under the curve 0,909 / sensitivity 70%, specifity 97%). Flare values > 6,15 were 100% specific for leakage on FA. There was a high correlation between FA score and flare (Spearman Correlation Coefficient: 0.711, p <0.001).
Conclusion
Subclinically elevated LFP level may be used as a surrogate marker of leakage on FA.
