Comparative analysis and evaluation of imaging in fluorescein and indocyanine green angiograms with Spectralis HRA versus Optos in patients with ocular inflammatory disorders
Purpose
To investigate differences between fluorescein (FA) and indocyanine green (ICG) angiograms captured with two different retinal imaging devices: Optos California (Optomap) versus Spectralis HRA (Heidelberg)
Methods
Observational, cross-sectional study, analyzing intermediate, late phases angiograms of patients referred to Pitié-Salpêtrière University Hospital for ocular inflammatory conditions from April to August 2021. Retinal and choroidal lesions were acquired, analyzed and compared for each patient simultaneously using both angiography tools. Inter-observer agreement was used
Results
39 eyes/20 patients (12F/8M) from April to August 2021. The mean age was 46±8.5. Assessment of angiographic images, including acute retinal and choroidal inflammatory disorders, with Spectralis HRA produced better images, well-defined in 76% of cases in the intermediate and late phases of FA and ICGA
Conclusion
FA and ICG remain gold standards for ocular inflammatory diseases and allow the early institution of treatment. Given the considerable progress made to date, Optos tends to be more widely used than Spectralis HRA. Our data showed that imaging modalities for assessing the retina and choroid, focusing on the ocular inflammatory disorders, were more accurate for certain parameters when using Spectralis. Further studies are needed
