PurposeTo study the pattern of choroidal and retinal inflammations in pathological eyeballs with immuno-histochemical staining in a tertiary institute of northeast India.
MethodsDesign- laboratory based study.
Enucleated eyeballs and eviscerated eyes where studied in the ophthalmic pathology laboratory .Gross, histopathological analysis and immunohistochemistry were done in the cases and documented.Retinal and choroidal tissues were studied for the inflammation. Clinical diagnosis were noted from case files. Retinal and choroidal vessels' caliber were analyzed particularly for the thickness of the walls of the blood vessels which were inflamed from normal blood vessels. Basic statistical tools were used to compare them.
ResultsTotal (n= 13) cases were studied of which (n= 8) cases were sympathetic ophthalmia (SO). Diffuse stromal choroditis were seen in 6 cases of SO. In 4 cases, endophthalmitis were evident with retinal layer inflammation. In one case (n=1) inflammatory epiretinal membrane was documented.
ConclusionRetinal and choroidal inflammations secondary to inflammatory and infectious process were important to know the pattern of involvement.
