| Title | Clinicopathological, immunohistochemistry and molecular biologic correlation in uveitis & scleritis |
| Accept poster if oral is not possible ? | Yes |
| Purpose | To describe clinicopathological, immunohistochemistry and molecular biologic correlation in end stage uveitis and scleritis |
| Methods | Histopathology, immunohistochemistry and molecular biologic study of eviscerated or enucleated tissues of end-stage uveitis and scleritis in 18 cases over a period of 10 years |
| Results | In Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome (1 case) and Sympathetic Ophthalmia(9 cases), predominant T-cell infiltration of the choroid was noted. In 3 cases of tubercular panuveitis, mycobacterial tuberculosis(MTB) genome was detected by nested and real-time PCR. Acid-fast bacilli were seen within retinal pigment epithelium in 1 case of TB panuveitis which was clinically diagnosed as choroidal melanoma. Predominant T cell involvement was seen in Eales' disease. Nested PCR was positive in 2 cases of Eales’ disease. In addition, real-time PCR was positive in 1 of the Eales’ disease case. Lymphocytic infiltration was present in a viral retinitis case. In 1 case of scleritis, Mycobacterial tubercular genome was detected and in the other case, giant nodular posterior scleral inflammation was noted. |
| Conclusion | Clinicopathological, immunohistochemistry and molecular biologic study can provide important insight into the pathogenesis of end-stage uveitis and scleritis |
