PurposeIgG4-related ophthalmic disease (IgG4-ROD) is a disorder of unknown etiology, which involves the ocular adnexa causing symptoms such as lacrimal gland swelling. In this study, we compared the clinical features of patients with IgG4-ROD grouped by clustering analysis using data of peripheral blood tests.
MethodsIn this retrospective study, 80 patients diagnosed with IgG4-ROD at the Department of Ophthalmology, Tokyo Medical University Hospital were studied. We divided the patients into groups by clustering analysis using data of peripheral blood tests conducted when IgG4-ROD was diagnosed. We compared the clinical features of the patient groups.
ResultsThe patients were divided to 4 groups: high IgG4 group (A), high IgA group (B), high lymphocyte ratio group (C), and low leukocyte ratio group (D). The prevalence of lesion in salivary gland or parotid gland was significantly different among 4 groups (A; 29%, B; 0%, C; 22%, D; 5%, p=0.04). On the other hand, the prevalence of lesion in organs other than salivary gland and parotid gland was not different among 4 groups (A; 68%, B; 47%, C; 50%, D; 58%, p=0.50). The prevalence of decreased visual acuity was significantly different among 4 groups (A; 25%, B; 0%, C; 5%, D; 5%, p=0.03).
ConclusionPatients with IgG4-ROD can be divided to 4 groups by clustering analysis using data of peripheral blood tests. There were differences in clinical features among 4 groups. The prevalence of lesion in salivary gland or parotid gland and visual acuity outcome can be predicted by the data of peripheral blood test.
